Sloth Secrets

Meet our most famous neighbors. At Finca Montezuma, sloths aren't just a sighting—they're part of the family.

Eyes to the Sky

Finding a sloth requires patience (and a little bit of magic). Use the lens below to scan the canopy for our resident three-toed friend.

Master of Zen

A sloth's entire existence is tailored for energy conservation. They sleep up to 20 hours a day and move at a blistering pace of just 40 yards daily. This ultra-slow metabolism allows them to survive on a diet of fibrous leaves that most animals can't digest.

Surprising Swimmers

They might be slow on land, but sloths are naturally buoyant and incredible swimmers! They can move three times faster in water than in trees, often swimming across Dolphin Bay to reach fresh feeding grounds or find a mate.

A favorite for mother sloths. Look for them in the Guarumo trees right outside the balcony.

The Mangrove Walk

Often seen low in the branches during high tide, reaching for tender mangrove shoots.

The Nursery

Check the tall Beach Almond trees near the dock—sloths love the shade here.
